Price out the Batmobile

Post by Steve on Wed Jan 16, 2013 10:41 pm

How much do you think the Batmobile will go for on Saturday night at the Barrett-Jackson? I want to take a guess at $6 million. This is the real Batmobile, I can't believe it is going up for sale. It belongs in a museum.

Gee Rick, I think it will be a record breaker. So far the highest price at a BJ auction was Caroll Shelby's King Cobra at 4.5 million. I have to believe the Batmobile will bring the record.

Now that I know I can't own the Batmobile I hope it's not too late to return the "Bat" tights I bought.

I have been reading your posts here about the Batmobile.... is it really worth $4.62 Million dollars?

I remember seeing this car in the late 1980s at the Jacob Javitts Convention Center in New York when I was a a convention. George Barris productions sponsored several televison and movie cars for display. There were several cars there including one of the 1961 Corvettes used on on the TV show Route 66. Also displayed was the Munsters Koach. The Batmobile was not in the best shape back then... and as I recall it looked rather hokey.... if that is a word...lol.

But is it worth that much money?

For $4.62 Million dollars you could buy 154 Pontiac Trans Ams at an average auction price of $30,000 each.

So would you rather have 154 Trans Ams or 1 Batmobile?

I would guess that if you could blow $4.62 million on the Batmobile you could probably have as many Trans Ams as you want. Personally I think the Batmobile should be the most valuable car ever, more expensive than Duesenbergs, Auto Unions, Bugattis, and whatever else. The Batmobile was part of the youth of hundreds of millions of kids who grew up in that era. Perhaps I am an idealist but I liked the feeling when I was young of idealistic people who made the world better by fighting crime. Look at today's news:

Washington DC police falsified records of over 200 rapes.
O'bama's speech elevates welfare recipients to heroes (I know he said Social Security and Medicaid recipients, but retirees were not what he was referring to when he spoke of future entrepreneurs).

Add in all the heartbreak of Newtown, 911, and all that other stuff and it feels like no-one is for true justice anymore. These days the Joker and Riddler's of the world are senators and Mr. Freeze is global warming (WARMING??? go figure). The cat woman would definitely be a sex scandal that no one would care about unless is was a republican. Democrats get an automatic pass (e.g. Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton).

The Batmobile is an ideal, a symbol of what should be. But in answer to your query I would probably rather have a red '73 Super Duty.

I hear ya... its a sad sad world these days. As cool as owning the original Batmobile would be, itd be a nightmare at the same time... Id go for a handful of mixed trim/year Birds.. including a totally bare-bones '82 Firebird, I-4/4 speed, idiot light dash, radio delete, no option car... just because it would represent the bottom of Firebird development. The Pride and Joy would be a '69 T/A with the full RA V component treatment... the DD of the group would be a 3rd Gen Trans Am dressed in '84 W62 "Aero package" Trans Am trim, fitted with a Wenzler aluminum 400, a T56, 18" Year One Honeycombs, and the uber-rare 3rd Gen Dana 44 HD Service-Replacement rear axle.... these amongst a group of others.

Al, you are truly hardcore on the third gens. I love it. I really want a black '82 myself. I would want the cross fire fuel injection just for the hood scoop really. I wouldn't Knight Rider it, I would stick with the standard gold trim. THEY ARE SO RARE NOW!
