1983 was not the only year a 3rd Gen Daytona Pace Car Replica was built...
In 1982, NASCAR utilized Pontiac's all-new 3rd Gen Trans Am to pace the Daytona 500. There were an unknown quantity built, but at least several dozen were built, including actual pace cars and a fleet of "Festival Cars" for NASCAR Officials and special dignitaries to utilize during the Daytona Speed Week. All were Red, had T-tops, and featured the familier "NASCAR" graphics found on 1983 Daytona 500 Trans Ams...
