There is no known cure for TA Fever. You can only reduce it's severity by cruising in one. I speak from experience. I've had the sickness for 22 Years.

Post by Greenbird76 on Fri Feb 24, 2012 6:17 pm

Welcome Frank. I hope I get to see that car in person. That motor looks phemoninal. A labor of love i am guessing. Rick, can we call it Firebird FEVER? Because I have had that for about 20 years. Cool

I believe they both have similar symptoms. But it's like comparing a cold to the flu lol! lol!

I have had TA fever since 1978 when I saw my first 1979 Trans Am. I liked cars before that but this one, a black and gold SE, inspired my life long passion. My addiction is different than my good friend Ricks I think, because driving one makes me want more. I have two, a junker and a driver. As long as I'm alive the junker will never see the junkyard that is for sure. It's all apart and I still love it.

Unlike a drug addiction this addiction has had nothing but positive results for me. I love of these cars was only one aspect. The friends I have made through the hobby and the good times (especially the Saratoga show and the Pontiac Celebration) have enriched my life beyond measure. You meet people on these message boards then when you meet in person it's like saying Hi to an old buddy.

In these hard financial times it is a struggle to keep these cars for many and affording the gas to cruise has been an issue. I believe the social life afforded by getting together with others who share your passion is a key element to being able to enjoy life in these dark times.

Do you have the Fever?

Post by TA78 on Sat Feb 25, 2012 2:00 pm

Sounds the same here, I've always like Firebirds as long as I can remember, But fell in LOVE with them in the summer of 1978. My cousin bought a brand new special order 4spd W72 platinum gray Trans Am with TTops, gave me a ride in it and the love affair was on. I bought my 1st one right after High School a Firethorn red 76(still my favorite year). I've also had another 78, a 77 and a 85.

P.S. that Platinum grey 78 I had my 1st ride in, is the same one I own today my cousin kept it, I bought it in 03 restored it, was like hooking up with an old girlfriend still a great ride......

Back in 1971 while I was setting by a window on a Navy
chartered bus. That was returning me and rest of the Blue Crew of the USS Ethan
Allen SSBN608 back the Naval Submarine Base after being deployed to Spain.

A 1971 Trans Am with the Girl of my Dreams flew by us.
And much to mine and the other 50 guy’s delight she slowed down and let the bus
pass her. This was when I really got a good look at the CAR. The rest is
history I didn’t get the Girl but I got the CAR 19 years later.

I didn't know you served aboard a balistic missle submarine Rick. That must take alot of stamina. Weren't you under water for months at a time? No sunshine? No privacy?

Cool story on the '71 Trans Am.
